Re-energizing tropes in the YA Medieval adventure genre- ‘Oric and the Alchemist’s Key’ is a dramatic and action oriented journey worth taking.

With a back story of taking refuge from villain Esica Figg- the money lender who is determined to steal the key that unlocks the secret to great wealth given to Oric by alchemist Deveril before taking his final breath, Oric runs for his life and accidentally stumbles upon Sir Edred’s Bayersby Manor and makes an ideal apprentice to the incumbent apothecary-Ichtheus. Oric’s healthy relationship with Ichtheus and their camaraderie and new found happiness is put to test and chased by Esica Figg’s evil plans.

Imagery being her forte, author Lesley Wilson infuses her evocative narration with a strong compelling young protagonist and a host of other diverse characters that are not just bystanders but are actively involved in the shaping up of the superbly crafted well thought out diction. Despite the obvious urgency in the pace of the plot, this well rounded YA novel takes its readers through an enchanted yet thorny adventure that is bound to excite and entertain fans of the genre. A 5 star read that is sure to leave its readers wishing for more ‘Oric and the Alchemist’s Key’ is highly recommended.
